JAPANESE MELON
Melons are the prototypical luxury fruit in Japan, and can be sold for over 10,000 yen per piece. Nonetheless, moderately priced melons are more common. Melons are usually cut open and the flesh of the fruit is enjoyed raw. Melons are often associated with Hokkaido, particularly the town of Yubari, whose eponymous Yubari melons are among the most highly valued in the country.
If the melon is not ripe when purchased, store at room temperature for one to two
days.
